Honda rules the scooter sales charts in India. The company has updated its Activa multiple times, over the years, to continue its domination. The newest update – which also appears to be the biggest – is the addition of a telescopic fork, and possibly a BS-VI-compliant engine.
Going by Honda’s previous-gen models, the scooter in the spy images can be expected to be called the Activa 6G, indicating that it is in its sixth generation. Honda appears to have finally ditched the outdated trailing-link suspension with a new telescopic fork that appears similar to the one on the Activa 125. Along with this, the Activa 110 6G appears to be sporting a disc brake and alloy wheels at the front, which will most likely be optional extras, like on the Activa 125.
Honda has also camouflaged the front apron and headlight area of the test scooter, implying that there could be cosmetic changes to the upcoming model as well. One can expect minor changes to freshen up the styling and help distinguish it from the 5G. The speedometer appears to have gone through a similar update where the digi-analogue layout remains the same, with a minor change in the dial. Other new feature like the service-due indicator light and all-LED headlight from the 5G will also make its way to the upcoming model.
The scooter spotted on test could also be using a BS-VI-compliant version of the 109cc, single-cylinder engine found on the current model. This engine could be using fuel-injection instead of a carburettor for fuelling to meet the upcoming BS-VI emission regulations which come into effect from April 1, 2020. However, this depends upon when Honda plans to launch the 6G. If it is set to make its debut sometime this year, we could see the bike maker not switch to fuel-injection this early, as it would increase the overall cost.
The Honda Activa 5G is currently priced from Rs 54,206. One can expect a price hike of around Rs 3,000-4,000 if the next-gen Activa 6G is only set to get a new fork along with some cosmetic updates. The disc-brake model could add another Rs 3,000 (similar to the Activa 125) to the overall cost – taking the total to a little over Rs 60,000. However, if the scooter gets released with BS-VI fuel-injection engine, the price could go significantly higher.
