Jim Gesto of South Bend, Indiana, has been in the trucking business his whole life. In this piece at WSBT.com in Indiana re: his latest invention, the Tower Trike, he says:
“One of the things that kind of bugged me was I’m on our road and I see a car ran over a motorcycle…How do you solve that problem? Well, you build a motorcycle big enough to run over a car.”
Makes sense. His Tower Trike prototype is 18 feet, 8 inches long, weighs 10,780 pounds (dry) and is powered by a 6V92 Detroit Diesel, whose 335 horsepower is less impressive than its 1,020 pound-feet of torque.
Each trike will have a cross mounted to the back, Ten Commandments tablets on the tail end and a salute to police and firefighters – but maybe that’ll be negotiable since each one will be made to order. Gesto says he’s already got a few orders, and would like to make a first run of 1000 units.
